Sonam Wangchuk, who is serving time in Jodhpur Central Jail in Rajasthan, has articulated a demand for an independent judicial investigation into the tragic death of four individuals during the violent incidents in Leh. Through his elder brother, he communicated his willingness to remain behind bars until the investigation takes place.

On Saturday, Wangchuk’s elder brother, Tsetan Dorje, along with his lawyer Mustafa Haji, was granted special permission to visit him in jail. Following their meeting, Advocate Mustafa took to social media platform X to relay Sonam’s message.

Wangchuk’s Well-being Assured by Lawyer

Lawyer Mustafa Haji reported that Sonam is in good physical and mental health. He extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent violence. Furthermore, Sonam has urged everyone to foster peace and unity while advocating for the implementation of the sixth schedule and statehood for the region.

Wangchuk’s Arrest on September 24

It is significant to note that Sonam Wangchuk was apprehended under the National Security Act on September 24 and subsequently transferred to Jodhpur Central Jail on September 26. His wife, Geetanjali J Angamo, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking her husband’s release, with the hearing scheduled for October 6.
