Digital Desk, New Delhi. On Thursday afternoon, a devastating accident unfolded in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh, coinciding with the celebration of Vijayadashami. A tractor-trolley, transporting over 25 devotees, fell into the water at a bridge near a pond in Ardala village of the Pandhana police jurisdiction.

During the rescue efforts, which continued late into the evening, the bodies of 12 devotees were retrieved, all of whom drowned in the tragic incident. Among the deceased, eight were young girls. The search for any additional missing individuals persisted into the night.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav Offers Condolences

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his sorrow regarding the incident, labeling the accidents that occurred during the Durga idol immersion in both Jamli and Ujjain, near Khandwa, as profoundly tragic. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.

Compensation for Families of the Victims

In light of this disaster, the Chief Minister announced that the families of the deceased would receive a compensation of ₹4 lakh each. Additionally, he assured that the injured would receive proper medical care at the nearest hospital. He urged the community to pray for the swift recovery of the injured and to support the grieving families during this challenging time.

Aboard the Tractor-Trolley: A Community Gathering

Reports indicate that more than 25 individuals, including women, men, and children, were aboard the tractor-trolley at the time of the incident. The vehicle was navigating a bridge that crosses over the pond. As the tractor-trolley attempted to traverse the bridge to reach the other side, the structure unexpectedly gave way, leading to the vehicle plunging into the water, with all passengers submerged.

Ongoing Rescue Efforts

Upon receiving information about the accident, local police swiftly arrived at the scene and launched a rescue operation. Unfortunately, by late evening, most of the individuals had been confirmed dead at the scene, while others were transported to local hospitals. Rescue efforts continued deep into the night, although administrative officials have refrained from making any comments regarding the incident.
