RTE Admissions 2025: The Tamil Nadu government has announced that the admissions for the academic year 2025-26 under the Right to Education (RTE) Act will take place from October 6 to October 17, 2025. This initiative comes on the heels of the Union government allocating a substantial sum of INR 450 crores to assist in reimbursing tuition fees for students attending private schools as mandated by the Act.

  • The Right to Education (RTE) Act admissions in Tamil Nadu for the academic year 2025-26 are set to commence.
  • The admission window will be open from October 6 to October 17, 2025.
  • This initiative follows the Union government’s provision of INR 450 crores aimed at offsetting the tuition fees of private school students.

RTE Admissions 2025: The admissions process in Tamil Nadu for the academic year 2025-26 will be conducted from October 6 to October 17, 2025, under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. This decision was influenced by the Union government’s recent allocation of INR 450 crores intended to help reimburse the tuition costs incurred by students enrolled in private educational institutions under this legislation. The admissions will take place through an online platform, prioritizing vulnerable groups such as orphans, children affected by HIV, transgender individuals, children from scavenger families, and those with disabilities.

These measures come as part of the Samagra Shiksha Scheme, particularly after the Tamil Nadu government’s previous decision to not adhere to the three-language policy in OM Shri schools, which led to the withholding of INR 2151 crores. The scheme also includes reimbursement provisions for RTE admissions for the 2024-25 academic session concerning private school enrollments. Approximately 6,000 private schools are expected to report the number of seats filled in their entry-level classes, from which 25% will be allocated to RTE quotas.

In a statement, School Education Secretary B Chandra Mohan remarked, “The government of India has now released the necessary funds, thus allowing us to initiate the RTE admissions for 2025-26 across Tamil Nadu.”

The release of funds follows directives from the Madras High Court, which were further supported by proceedings in the Supreme Court. The High Court instructed the Union government to consider separating the RTE component from the Samagra Shiksha Scheme for disbursement purposes.

The notification issued by the Union government noted, “The matter was reviewed with the approval of the Union education minister, leading to the decision to implement the Madras High Court’s directions to release funds specifically for the RTE entitlements component of the Samagra Shiksha Scheme.”
