Karwa Chauth 2025: According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Karwa Chauth is observed on the fourth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Kartik. This year, the significant fast will be celebrated on October 10, which falls on a Sunday. On this special day, various materials are used for the rituals, including a small earthen pot known as the ‘Karwa’.

This pot is considered essential for the puja and without it, the worship is deemed incomplete. In recent times, besides the traditional earthen Karwa, pots made of copper and brass are also being utilized. On the day of Karwa Chauth, the first item placed on the puja thali is the Karwa itself.

In this article, let us delve into the details of what should be offered in the Karwa, as explained by Astrologer Pandit Dayanand Tripathi.

Filling the Karwa with wheat is considered highly auspicious. It symbolizes purity and also represents Goddess Annapurna. The Karwa is seen as a representation of Karwa Mata. By filling the pot with wheat, it is believed that financial hardships are kept at bay, and joy and prosperity prevail within the household. Therefore, it is important to chant mantras while filling the Karwa with wheat.

Moreover, there is a special ritual involving the inclusion of milk and sugar in the Karwa. Sugar is placed inside the lid of the pot, while one can also mix Ganga water into the milk. It is crucial to ensure that the contents of the Karwa are distinct from those in the Karwa pot, as this is believed to bring happiness, peace, and prosperity.

Include Rice and a Silver Coin in the Karwa

There is a particular tradition of filling the Karwa with rice and a silver coin. You should place puffed rice and a silver coin inside the Karwa, and afterward, perform the moon worship as per the rituals. This practice is believed to strengthen the position of the moon in one’s astrological chart and may help alleviate any conflicts or disputes in married life.
