On Friday, the Airline Pilots Association of India (ALPA India) announced that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has declined their request to include a representative in the investigative team looking into the Air India aircraft crash that occurred in Ahmedabad in June. This tragic incident claimed the lives of 260 individuals. The primary focus of the discussions revolved around the selection of subject matter experts for the aircraft accident investigation.
In a meeting held in New Delhi, representatives from ALPA India engaged with GVG Yugandhar, the Director General of the AAIB. The main agenda of this meeting was to address the criteria for appointing subject experts in the field of aircraft accident investigations.
Following this meeting, Sam Thomas, the President of ALPA India, conveyed that the AAIB indicated its inability to incorporate ALPA pilots as subject matter experts in the investigative team, citing adherence to government criteria as the reason for this decision.
ALPA India, a member of the International Federation of Airline Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA), is advocating for the inclusion of its representative in the investigative team. Thomas stated that while the AAIB could not accommodate their request at this time, they assured ALPA India that they would be invited to participate in quarterly meetings moving forward.
