JNN, Indore. In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Narcotics Wing has apprehended a suspect believed to be involved in the distribution of alprazolam powder valued at several crores of rupees. The individual, identified as Mushtaq, has confessed to procuring the illicit powder from drug dealers based in Rohtak.
Authorities suspect that this substantial quantity of powder was intended for transport to Bangladesh. As part of the ongoing investigation, law enforcement agencies are scrutinizing the mobile and bank transactions associated with the suspected smugglers.
According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Narcotics, Maheshchandra Jain, law enforcement officials apprehended Mushtaq, the son of Allah Noor Mansuri, at Ujjain on Thursday. During the operation, police seized an impressive 20 kg and 363 grams of alprazolam powder, which could potentially be processed into around 20 lakh tablets.
Mushtaq disclosed that the packages containing the powder were provided to him by Omprakash Raidas, a resident of Narsingpur in Mandsaur. Authorities have since arrested Omprakash on Friday in connection with the case.
DSP Santosh Hada has reported that Omprakash has admitted to engaging in contracts for the procurement of low-cost powder from drug traffickers in Rohtak. He is already known to have supplied other narcotics, including MDMA, opium, and alprazolam powder. The police are pursuing leads that suggest a wider network of smugglers with ties to Bangladesh, indicating that the accused are not only involved in the production but also the distribution of these illegal substances.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are committed to dismantling the entire drug supply chain, which poses a significant threat to public health and safety. The alarming rise in the misuse of prescription drugs like alprazolam has raised concerns among health officials and law enforcement, prompting increased vigilance and cooperation across agencies. The Narcotics Wing is determined to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in this illegal operation, ensuring that justice is served.
