In a troubling incident in the Droughtsevania area of Bhopal, Shakun Sharma, the 55-year-old General Secretary of the BJP Mahila Mandal, was violently attacked by her neighbors. The confrontation occurred on Friday evening as she was returning home from a local temple. In a desperate attempt to escape the situation, Shakun managed to flee to her home where she promptly called the police for assistance. However, after the police arrived and provided an explanation, they left the scene, which unfortunately led to further aggression from the neighbor’s family towards her.
According to reports, the altercation began when Shakun was approached by two sisters from the neighborhood who dragged her away from her home and physically assaulted her. Their parents and brother also joined in the attack. Disturbingly, the victim’s father recorded a video of the incident, which surfaced on Saturday, bringing attention to the violence. Following the submission of a complaint by Shakun, the local police in Drysewonia registered a case against five individuals involved in the assault. It has been revealed that after the attack, all the accused fled and secured themselves inside their home to avoid further confrontation. Station in-charge Rambabu Chaudhary noted that they have discovered information about a longstanding dispute between the two families.
Background of the Dispute
Shakun Sharma has resided in Siddha Nagar, Omkara Sevenia for the past decade, while her husband Kamlesh works at a local hotel and their son is employed outside the area. Over the years, she has been actively involved in community efforts, including the construction of a Shiva temple in collaboration with local residents. However, tensions escalated when a newcomer, Sunil Gurjar from Begumganj, allegedly began disputing the temple’s ownership two years ago. Reports suggest that Sunil had been obstructing members of the Brahmin community from participating in worship. Additionally, he has been involved in violent altercations, including a recent incident where he assaulted a neighbor, Atul Vyas, over an electricity disagreement.
The Incident Unfolds
The confrontation on Friday evening occurred around 6 PM when Shakun was returning from the temple. While she was discussing the ongoing dispute with her neighbor Atul, Sunil’s daughters, Anu and Manu, instigated a quarrel with her. Feeling threatened, Shakun hurried home and alerted her son by dialing emergency services. Unfortunately, shortly after she attempted to go to the police station with Atul to report the incident, Anu and Manu once again accosted her, pulling her into a physical struggle.
Further Assault and Ongoing Concerns
During this chaotic scene, Sunil Gurjar, along with his wife Geeta Gurjar and son Anurag Gurjar, also joined in the assault against Shakun. The victim claims that another neighbor, Tanu’s husband Balaram, participated in the attack as well, although his name was not included in the initial FIR. In light of the ongoing violence and intimidation, Shakun has expressed her concerns to the Superintendent of Police and has reached out to her local MLA to seek intervention and justice for the harassment she has faced.
