On Friday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government has repeatedly demonstrated its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s unity, integrity, and security, even if it requires crossing borders. Speaking at the Jain International Trade Organization’s Jeeto Connect program, he highlighted the troubling incidents in Pahalgam, where individuals were targeted based on their religion, contrasting this with India’s approach, which transcends religious affiliations.
In a statement delivered in Hyderabad, Rajnath Singh reiterated that the NDA administration has consistently shown its resolve to act decisively for the safety of its citizens. He referenced significant military operations such as the surgical strike in 2016, the Balakot airstrike in 2019, and the more recent Operation Sindoor, stressing that these actions were not influenced by religious considerations. During the Jeeto Connect event, he pointed out the unfortunate reality in Pahalgam, where people faced violence based on their faith, yet India’s military responses have remained focused solely on combating terrorism.
Targeting Terrorism, Not Communities
The Defense Minister further clarified that the government’s military operations have specifically targeted terrorist infrastructures to ensure accountability for the attacks that have plagued Pahalgam. He underscored that the military never aimed at civilian or military establishments and could have escalated their actions if desired but chose restraint instead.
Rajnath Singh asserted that India’s military and economic advancements are not intended for dominance but rather to uphold the principles of faith, morality, and humanitarian values as taught by Lord Mahavira. This commitment to ethical governance reflects the ethos of the nation, aiming to protect its citizens and maintain peace.
Significant Growth in Defense Exports
Addressing the topic of national pride and credibility, he stated that the NDA government has made significant strides in enhancing India’s defense exports, which have skyrocketed from ₹600 crores to an impressive ₹24,000 crores over the past 11 years. The trajectory suggests that this figure could soar past ₹50,000 crores by 2029, showcasing India’s growing prowess in defense manufacturing.
He emphasized that the government is prioritizing self-reliance, with a steady reduction in dependence on foreign technology. The development of indigenous military assets such as the Tejas fighter aircraft, Akash missile systems, Arjun tanks, and advanced helicopters is a testament to this commitment.
India: The Future Global Manufacturing Hub
Looking ahead, Rajnath Singh expressed optimism that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is poised to become the “factory of the world.” He projected that by 2030, the Indian economy would reach a remarkable value of $7.3 trillion. In this context, he also acknowledged the significant contributions of the Jain community, which, despite representing only 0.5 percent of the national population, accounts for approximately 24 percent of the country’s tax revenue.
