The ‘Self-Reliant India’ initiative, which was introduced by the Modi administration, has not only invigorated the economy but is also addressing the pressing issue of unemployment. Additionally, this campaign has bolstered the ‘Make in India’ movement, encouraging global manufacturers to set up operations within the country.

What did Amit Shah say about GST cuts?

During a public event in Panaji on Saturday, following the inauguration of several development projects, including the ambitious ‘Mahaje Ghar’ initiative, Amit Shah addressed the audience. The event was also attended by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Union Minister and North Goa MP Shripad Naik, and Rajya Sabha member Sadanand Shet Tension.

Shah pointed out that, in light of the upcoming Navratri festival, the Prime Minister has implemented a significant reduction of one-third in GST (Goods and Services Tax) on 395 products, a move that has proven beneficial for the public. He stated, “GST on numerous food items has been lowered to zero, and essential daily commodities now attract a reduced GST rate of just five percent.”

‘Avoid foreign goods’

The Home Minister remarked that since India gained independence, no government had taken the bold step of slashing sales tax or GST to such an extent, a feat achieved by Prime Minister Modi. He expressed hope that this Diwali would bring good fortune to all Indians. The Prime Minister has also prioritized the message of Swadeshi (indigenous), urging everyone to commit to not using any foreign products unless absolutely necessary during this festive season.

Shah articulated that if all 140 crore citizens of India vow to choose only indigenous products, and if local traders prioritize stocking Indian goods, the nation could quickly realize its aspiration of becoming self-sufficient. He emphasized that there is no greater achievement than national self-reliance.
