Digital Desk, New Delhi. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to embark on a two-day visit to India next week, marking his inaugural trip to the country since he assumed office in July of the previous year.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced on Saturday that the visit, scheduled for October 8 and 9, will create significant opportunities for both nations to align their perspectives and foster a forward-looking partnership.

During his stay, Starmer will engage in comprehensive discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mumbai on October 9. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders will assess progress on the Prime Minister’s Vision 2035, which outlines a decade-long roadmap of initiatives and programs designed to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Britain.

Topics of Discussion Between the Leaders

In their meetings, the two Prime Ministers are expected to deliberate on the prospects offered by the India-Britain Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which is poised to become a cornerstone of the future economic collaboration between the two nations. This agreement is anticipated to unlock various opportunities for businesses and industry leaders in both countries.

PM Modi’s Earlier Visit to the UK

Prime Minister Modi had previously traveled to London in July, where India and Britain finalized a landmark free trade agreement. This agreement is designed to enhance market access, reduce tariffs on a variety of goods—including British whiskey and automobiles—and aims to double bilateral trade by the year 2030.
