- Introduction of Swadeshi Vocal for Local and Swadeshi Self-Reliant India modules
- Linking Atmanirbhar Bharat with the principles of the Swadeshi Movement
- Emphasis on the Made-in-India initiative to foster self-sufficiency
In a significant educational initiative, the National Council of Educational Research and Training has launched two new modules: Swadeshi: Vocal for Local targeted at the Middle Stage, and Swadeshi for a Self-Reliant India aimed at the Secondary Stage. These educational resources resonate with the Prime Minister’s vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat, reinforcing the ideals of the historic Swadeshi Movement.
These modules incorporate important excerpts from the Prime Minister’s address during the 79th Independence Day celebrations, where he articulated that self-reliance is fundamental to the strength and dignity of the nation. The Prime Minister has consistently encouraged citizens and local vendors to promote and support Made-in-India products, framing this as a matter of national pride rather than mere obligation.
The modules draw inspiration from the Swadeshi Movement of 1905, a significant campaign led by prominent figures such as Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, and Bipin Chandra Pal. These leaders galvanized the public to shun British imports in favor of Indian-made goods. This movement, which was later regarded as the ‘Soul of Swaraj,’ evolved into a broader struggle for social and spiritual independence.
Connecting historical movements with contemporary efforts, the modules also introduce students to the India Semiconductor Mission. This initiative aims to decrease reliance on imports while enhancing domestic capabilities in the emerging semiconductor sector, a critical area of technological development.
In addition to highlighting advancements in technology, the modules present narratives of grassroots entrepreneurs who exemplify the ethos of Vocal for Local. These stories serve to inspire students and show them the real-world impact of supporting local businesses.
The government’s One District One Product (ODOP) initiative is also featured prominently in the modules. To date, over 1,200 unique products have been identified across more than 750 districts in India. These products are showcased on platforms like GeM and ONDC, and the initiative is gaining international traction with dedicated ODOP Walls established in global cities such as Singapore, Milan, New York, and Tokyo.
