Digital Desk, New Delhi. Uddhav Thackeray delivered a scathing criticism of both the central and Maharashtra state governments during the Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park, Mumbai. He focused on the pressing issue of farmer debt waivers, contending that those in power are failing the residents of Maharashtra. Thackeray made it clear that the integrity of the Marathi language and culture, as well as the city of Mumbai, must be safeguarded against any outside interference.
In a traditional display of political fervor, the Shiv Sena (UBT), under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray, held its annual Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park. During this event, he strongly criticized the government for its failure to address the challenges faced by farmers and ordinary citizens. Thackeray likened the ruling BJP to an amoeba, suggesting that its presence is causing turmoil within society and distress among the populace.
Confronting Government Officials
From his platform at Shivaji Park, Uddhav Thackeray did not hold back in his attacks on Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He accused the current Maharashtra government and the BJP of working against the welfare of the state and its residents. Reflecting on his tenure as Chief Minister, he noted that under his leadership, farmers’ loans were forgiven, whereas the present administration has failed to provide essential support to the agricultural community.
Protecting Marathi Heritage
Thackeray referred to the loan waiver initiatives of 2017 and questioned why similar actions are not being undertaken now. He emphasized his commitment to the welfare of Maharashtra and its people, asserting that the preservation of Marathi language and culture remains a top priority. He cautioned that the Marathi community and the city of Mumbai would not be handed over to outside entities. He accused the BJP of fostering division among the populace solely for political gain, while neglecting the pressing issues facing the state.
Claiming the True Shiv Sena Identity
Uddhav Thackeray asserted that the authentic Shiv Sena still exists. He expressed concern over the recent arrest of Ladakh social activist Sonam Wangchuk, labeling him a patriot who has dedicated his efforts to improving life in the remote regions of Leh-Ladakh. Wangchuk’s contributions include advancements in solar energy technology for the Indian Army and advocacy for water conservation and social rights. Thackeray criticized Prime Minister Modi for his silence until Wangchuk began to voice dissenting opinions.
Criticism of GST Policy
Turning his attention to economic issues, Thackeray targeted the BJP over its handling of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). He questioned the claims made by the party regarding the end of GST, asking rhetorically who initiated the tax reform. He likened the current economic situation to a film scene where prices are artificially inflated and then reduced, suggesting that the same trickery is being employed today.
