CHENNAI, PTI – On Saturday, law enforcement authorities conducted a thorough interrogation of ambulance drivers who were on duty during a recent rally held by popular YouTuber and actor Vijay. This investigation stems from the dissemination of inappropriate content connected to the tragic stampede that occurred in Karur.

In a related development, Kishore Makwana, the President of the National Scheduled Castes Commission (NCSC), arrived in Karur, Tamil Nadu, on Friday to meet with the families of the 12 Scheduled Caste victims who lost their lives in the stampede. The Commission has made a significant recommendation that each bereaved family be provided with government employment for an eligible member, reflecting their commitment to supporting those affected. During his visit, Makwana also paid respects at the homes of the victims and has requested a detailed report from district officials regarding the incident.

According to the Commission’s findings, 15 out of the 41 victims were members of the Scheduled Caste community. This tragic event took place on September 27, during a political rally organized by actor Vijay in Karur, where a chaotic stampede resulted in a devastating loss of life.

In connection with the investigation, police officials confirmed that YouTuber Maridhas was apprehended by the Cybercrime Police at his residence. He was interrogated about his social media post related to the incident, specifically on the platform ‘X’. After his questioning, he was released with the stipulation that he would return for further questioning.

Meanwhile, law enforcement reported that five to six ambulance drivers who were present at the scene of the incident in Karur have stepped forward to assist with the investigation. Authorities are probing both government and private ambulance drivers from Karur and nearby districts to gather more information.

The police are currently investigating crucial details, including who contacted the ambulance drivers, how many times they were dispatched to various hospitals, and the total number of ambulances that operated on the day of the stampede, September 27.

In a separate statement, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established by the orders of the Madras High Court to delve into the circumstances surrounding the stampede. The Chief Minister assured the public that the investigation would uncover the entire truth and hold those responsible accountable at every level. He also emphasized the need for the development of standard operating procedures aimed at preventing such tragic incidents in the future.
