The Indian Navy’s indigenous guided missile stealth frigate, INS Sahyadri, recently docked at Kemaman port during its deployment in the South China Sea and the wider Indo-Pacific region. This visit significantly strengthened the diplomatic and military ties between India and Malaysia. Upon the arrival of INS Sahyadri, numerous discussions were held between personnel from the Indian Navy and their Malaysian counterparts to foster cooperation and understanding.
Digital Desk, New Delhi. The INS Sahyadri, a guided missile stealth frigate proudly built in India, made its way to Kemaman port from October 2 to 5 as part of an operational mission assigned to the eastern fleet in the South China Sea and the Indo-Pacific region.
This voyage served as an excellent opportunity to enhance relations between India and Malaysia. An official spokesperson from the Indian Navy revealed on Sunday that the Commanding Officer of the ship engaged in discussions with Admiral Abd Haleem bin Qamruddin, the Deputy Commander of the Navy Area 1, who is based at the Kuantan Navy Base.
Engagements between Indian and Malaysian Naval Forces
Upon arrival at Kemaman port, members of the Indian Navy and the Royal Malaysian Navy convened for a series of meetings, focusing on mutual areas of interest. The interactions included a friendly football match, and the crew of INS Sahyadri organized a yoga session along with a charity initiative in Kemaman, promoting camaraderie and goodwill between the two nations.
This marks INS Sahyadri’s third visit to Malaysian shores. The frigate previously visited Port Klang as part of the Sadbhavna Mission in 2016 and took part in the Samudra Laxman exercise in Kota Kinabalu in 2019. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that defense relations between India and Malaysia have consistently strengthened over the years, emphasizing that the Defense Cooperation Settlement Agreement established in 1993 serves as the cornerstone of the bilateral defense relationship.
