In a recent update from the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) officials, the release of water from both the Ranjit Sagar Dam and Pong Dam has been ongoing since Sunday, directing water flow into the Ravi and Dariya rivers. Meanwhile, weather forecasts indicate the potential for rain in various locations, coinciding with overcast conditions affecting 34 districts across Bihar. A yellow alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the districts of Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj.
Digital Desk, New Delhi. Despite the monsoon season coming to a close, the rainy weather is expected to persist for the next couple of days. According to meteorological predictions, both light and heavy rains are anticipated across the plains as well as in hilly regions. The temperatures have also seen a notable drop, largely attributable to recent snowfall and rainfall in the higher altitudes of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Forecasts for Delhi and its neighboring regions predict significant rainfall on Monday, with a yellow alert issued to caution residents. The rain is expected to continue into Tuesday as well. Mahesh Palawat, Vice President of Meteorological and Climate Change at Skymet Weather, has identified two primary factors contributing to this shift in weather patterns.
Moisture-laden Winds at Play
The first factor involves moisture-laden winds originating from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, which are likely to cause precipitation upon their convergence. The second factor is the active western disturbance affecting Central Pakistan and Punjab. On Sunday morning, many districts in Punjab experienced rainfall accompanied by strong winds. The Meteorological Department warns of heavy showers and possible hailstorms in the state over the next two days.
In conjunction with these developments, the BBMB management has confirmed the continuous release of water from the Ranjit Sagar Dam and Pong Dam into the Ravi and Dariya rivers. Additionally, there remains a chance of rain in several locations as cloudy skies envelop 34 districts in Bihar, where a yellow alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall is in effect for Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj.
Ashish Kumar, Director of the Meteorological Center in Patna, mentioned that the weather is expected to dry out as rainfall diminishes following October 8. Meanwhile, warnings of heavy rainfall and snow have been issued for the hilly states. The Meteorological Center in Dehradun reported that Uttarakhand is likely to experience a spell of rain accompanied by strong winds, thunderstorms, and lightning over the next 48 hours.
Weather Outlook for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh
In anticipation of severe weather, the Meteorological Department has issued alerts for intense rainfall, electrical storms, hail, and powerful winds in several districts, including Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli. In Himachal Pradesh, the region has already reported a decrease in temperatures due to rain and snow at higher elevations, along with strong gusts recorded on Sunday morning.
Rain was reported in various locations, including Dharamshala, while snowfall occurred in the higher elevations of Dhauladhar, Rohtang, Shinkula, Kunjum, Baralacha, Pangi, Kinnaur, and Manali. Consequently, the maximum temperature in the state has dropped by a significant 13 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted additional snowfall, rain, and hailstorms in Himachal Pradesh on October 6 and 7. The Rohtang Pass has been closed to vehicles due to ongoing snowfall in the higher mountainous areas of the state. Moreover, many regions in Jammu and Kashmir experienced heavy rainfall early Sunday morning.
First Snowfall of the Season
Furthermore, while the pilgrimage to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi continues, the journey to Machail Mata in Shivkhodi and Kishtwar has been suspended for three days due to adverse weather conditions. The Joji La Pass in Kargil, Ladakh, has also received its first snowfall of the season. In light of the Meteorological Department’s warnings regarding heavy rainfall, the Directorate of School Education in Jammu has mandated the closure of all government and private schools for two days in the Jammu division.
